the earl she left behind

When danger entangles Maggie Winters and Maxwell Wilde into a treacherous game can they survive the darkness to embrace love’s light?

A widow with a tragic past…

Maggie Winters had everything she always wished for — betrothed to the man of her dreams, a loving home, and a new puppy. But it all changes when her parents die, and her new guardian sweeps Maggie from town and forces her to marry a stranger to pay his debts. When she suddenly finds herself a widow and free of an unhappy marriage, can she finally find the love she's dreamed of?

A hero with a hopeful future…
Lord Maxwell Wilde still loves Maggie Winters, despite his years abroad in service to the Crown. They had planned to marry until she disappeared from his life, leaving only a scribbled note in her wake. Returning home late from an assignment in the middle of a sudden storm, he finds a badly injured woman lying in the road. He saves her only to realize he has rescued the woman he’s never forgotten. But can his memories of a long-lost love be enough for a future of happiness?

★★★★★ “In this very emotional story in the Noble Hearts series, there are numerous mysteries to solve while two hearts need mending. A couple thought they were going to have a perfect future together, but the actions of a callous man alters everything and causes them much anguish. Their present circumstances offer a glimmer of hope, yet these two individuals find they must go through a series of unexpected highs and lows before all is resolved. Anna St. Claire has cleverly made her historical romance not only believable but also highly enthralling at all times, making THE EARL SHE LEFT BEHIND continuously entertaining. This is my first-time reading Anna St. Claire, and I definitely enjoyed her writing style. Characters are portrayed with convincing traits and responses, while the situations that they have to face come across as credible. The story takes place in 1815, but the plot is not about English balls and high society. Its focus is on true-to-life incidents and the consequences of these events on various lives. I was certainly not anticipating several of the shocking disclosures in the book, and as each revelation was exposed, I became more intrigued about how these instances would impact the current existence of Max and Maggie. I truly adored this couple, as each has suffered through their own grief and they now have to make quite a few critical decisions. There is also a delightful dog named Shep in the story, and his behavior added to my enjoyment of the book.” ~ A. Richard

★★★★★ “Wonderful storytelling and writing style. Maggie and Maxwell's story tugged at my heart as a result of circumstances they were unaware of and unable to control. I found it a wonderful book to read and satisfying to the end.” ~ Kindle-Shelley

★★★★★ “This book is a Must Read!!! I found the book delightful and intriguing. The love affair between Max and Meg is spellbinding. True love always prevails. Meg's whole life changed with her families accident. You will not be able to put this book down.. hoping to find out how Max and Meg (and Shep) find their way back into each other's arms. I give this book 6 STARS.. !” ~ Susan

★★★★★ “Anna writes sweet, funny stories that often feature animals. You can tell she loves them and they add brilliant texture to her romances. I laughed and thoroughly enjoyed this story and can't wait to read the next! I've read her Wicked Earls books and loved them too.” ~ Koalabear

★★★★★ “What a wonderful story of second chance at love for both Maggie and Maxwell. Maggie Winters was set to marry the love of her life, Lord Maxwell Wilde until her family suddenly dies and Maggie is put into the care of her Uncle. Her Uncle quickly marries her off to one of his gambling friends that he owes money to. Her new husband is old, mean and violent. Wow, this was a very emotional story that I couldn’t put down. I was into the story from the beginning. Maggie went through so much after she was forced to leave Maxwell. But finding him again really helped her overcome her fears. You had to feel so much for Maxwell after she left him with no word as to why. And there is Shep, Maggie’s little dog who would not leave her side and became her protector. What a little sweetheart.” ~ Theresa25
